11th ASEAN FOOD CONFERENCE 2009

INTRODUCTION
The Eleventh ASEAN Food Conference, which is a biennial event, will carry the theme “Food Science and Technology: Innovative Approaches and Opportunities for Global Marker”.
The 3-days conference to be held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam from 21-23 October 2009, is organised by ASEAN-COST and FIFSTA, supported by the Ministry of Development (MOD), Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Brunei Darussalam Association of Food Science and Technology (BDAFST) and University Brunei Darussalam (UBD). The ASEAN Food Conference has, since its inception, developed into an important regional forum for food scientists, technologists, engineers and industry managers and executives as well as government personnel and students in the field of food science and technology. The representatives from the ASEAN region and its international partners meet to discuss significant issues related to food science and technology, with the view to promote greater awareness in new and emerging technologies and developments, and the opportunities these offer for the global market.
The Conference, like its other preceding events, will feature a series of presentations and discussion in plenary, concurrent and poster sessions, informal gatherings, competition and an exhibition to highlight the various achievements of food science and technology in the region.

THE OBJECTIVES

1.To keep abreast with advances and innovation in food science and technology.

2.To assist and provide education and services, in support of food safety and security in Asian food trade.

3.To provide a forum for the discussion and dissemination of knowledge on food industries’ impact towards the environment, health and nutrition.

4.To enhance harmonization in regulation.

5.To foster global networking and linkages in food science and technology and increase competitiveness in research and new export opportunities.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The conference promise to provide opportunities to meet and share experiences with representatives from the International and ASEAN experts and food community. It will also provide an excellent occasion for forging links with government officials, academic and business community.

Scientific contributors can be in any aspect of food science and technology. The conference will be conducted in English.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The 11th AFC will be of interest to all involved in the food industry and the general public. These include food scientist and technologists, food entrepreneurs, policy planners, international and regional agencies, government and non governmental organizations, students and others related with the food industry.
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Organizing Committee would like to invite interested scientists, technologist and industry personnel papers (oral and/or poster) for the Conference.
Submission of abstract
Intending authors are requested to submit an abstract of their work according to the following format:
-
double-spaced; -
typed using 12 point Arial with a margin of 3 cm on all four sides; and -
have the following information: -
-title of paper,
-
-name of author(s),
-
-abstract of about 150 words in length containing the essential information and main conclusions,
-
-5 keywords that identify article content, and
-
-Footnote with author(s) academic degrees, professional titles, affiliations, mailing addresses, telephone number, facsimile number and email address.
The abstracts will be reviewed by the Technical Committee, which will communicate to the corresponding author the acceptance either for oral or poster presentation together with the format of the full paper through e-mail by 1st June 2009. Full papers received after the due date will not be included in the proceeding.
Abstracts should be submitted to the Technical Committee by 15th April 2009 to the Chairman of Technical Committee of the following address:
