The Asean Farmers Week is an annual programme organized among Asean country members where the task of hosting the event will be determined by the Asean Sectoral Working Group on Agricultural Training and Extension.


The programme provides a venue to hold discussions and informal  meetings as well as visits to farms which produce agricultural export products which includes fisheries. This programme will be held during the launching of local agricultural activities where farmers from the hosting country will be participating in the activities.


Brunei Darussalam has been given the honour to be the host for the 14th Asean Farmers Week 2008, whereby the said event will be held in conjunction with the 2008 Fruit and Agri-Food Festival which will also be held the same time as the launching of Asean GAP.


As done previously, each Asean member country will select two farming representatives to attend the event accompanied by an officer. During the event, all farmers as well as guests from Asean member countries will attend the launching of the 2008 Fruit and Agri-Food Festival, Asean GAP and also Asean Farmers Week. All farmers and officers will be involved with  the Asean GAP Seminar which will be held for two days to be followed by the visits to farms in the Batumpu Agricultural Development Project, fisheries project and fruit farms.

The 2008 Asean Farmers Week will be organized by the Agricultural Department of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Brunei with the following objectives:


  1. BulletTo foster the relationship between the farming community and officers involved and to strengthen the link between agribusiness industry business partners.


  2. BulletTo provide opportunities to farmers and Asean officers  involved a platform to exchange view, experiences, information, expertise and technology in agriculture development as a means to encourage developments of farming groups or associations in each member country.


  3. BulletTo give opportunities to local farmers in evaluating their capabilities in facilitating such programmes.


  4. BulletTo improve capabilities and expertise in agricultural farming aspects in order to produce high quality export products.

The Asean Farmers Week will be held from July 11th to 14th 2008 at Kampong Parit Recreation Park, Mukim Pengkalan Batu, Brunei. The activities and events which have been planned for guests and farming participants from Asean member countries are as follows:


Agri-Food and Fruit Festival 2008

The festival is to provide an opportunity to understand the national agricultural industry with the objective of encouraging and promoting awareness to the public regarding local fruits and its benefits.


Agricultural Product Sales and Exhibition

The agricultural sales and exhibition will be open to local as well as international participants with the objective of giving an opportunity to various participants to showcase the best products and technology that can be offered for sale and use in the Asean market or in the Asian region.


Local Activities

These activities will give a demonstration from the Women’s Association showcasing their capability in processing of local fruits to confectionaries, jams and local food products
