The Brunei Agrotechnology Park is a major new development promoted by the Government of Brunei Darussalam through the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources as part of its diversification strategy to promote sectors other than oil and oil-based activities. The Park is being developed on a 263 hectare site close to the capital Bandar Seri Begawan. It will offer small and medium-sized and large property units in a range of specifications including laboratory and office buildings; tenants will also be given the opportunity to develop custom-made buildings on dedicated sites. The Park will create an exceptionally high quality landscaped environment which will offer attractive working conditions to international executives and their staff.
An area adjacent to the site will be reserved for the purpose of experimental farming. Brunei welcomes foreign investment and offers them a range of incentives including exemption from income tax, imported goods (equipment and raw materials) and opportunities to carry forward losses and allowances, Particular benefits are given to businesses which are granted pionner status. Brunei is flexible towards foreign equity retirements.
There will be opportunites for occupants to have preferential access to knowledge and technology services associated with Brunei Premium Halal brand. The Brunei Premium Halal Brand is to commit to the obligation of 'Fardhu Kifayah' with an effort to increasing the number of Halal food that can be consumed by Muslims due to emergence of varieties of products containing non-Halal raw material or ingredients.
The Project
Brunei Darussalam is a safe and peaceful country. It has an enormous business potential favourable for business activities. The project will provide all the necessary basic infrastructure such as road, water and electricity supply, drainage and telecommunication services. A foreign investment project could either be wholly owned or as a joint venture and should engage in a modern intensive enterorise with strong orientation for export.
Strategic Location
The Park is only 15 kilometres from Brunei International Airport (10 minutes drive) and 30 kilometres from the port (30 minutes drive) and serve by excellent major highways leading to the airport and the seaport.
ICT Facilities
Brunei Darussalam has an excellent ICT network connecting the country to the rest of the world through both wireless technology (satellite) and fibre optic technology (submarine cable). Businessess are connected to the ICT infrastructure and can access basic telephony and value added services. Such connectivity coupled with economic and political stability gives Brunei Darussalam a competitive advantage in attracting Foreign Direct Investment to the country.
Activities
The Park will attract research and innovative technology applications with a particular focus on life sciences-based activities in agriculture, fisheries, and forestry. One of the first anchor developments will be Brunei's new Halal Science Center, a research-institute which is designed to become one of the main global centres of excellence in Halal-related activities. The Park will also be a venue for the Food Development Centre, a research and innovation for value-added processing of agricultural products and Agribusiness Incubator, which will facilitate the setup of agribusiness companies in order to tap the scientific and managerial resources and develop into viable ventures.
