• To promote and facilitate sustainable livestock production;
• To promote and facilitate maximum utilization of land allocated for livestock production;
• To support the development of a viable livestock production;
• To establish programme for the enforcement of rules and regulations regarding livestock industry.

The main functions of the Units under Livestock Veterinary Services are:

• Veterinary Public Health – To ensure the food products of animal origin are clean, wholesome and fit for human consumption. Implementation of food safety programs such as Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Veterinary Inspection Logo, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) on livestock farms, abattoirs and processing plants.

• Animal Health & Quarantine – To establish, maintain and develop a comprehensive animal health control programme in order to safe guard public health and prevent spread of animal diseases. The Unit is also responsible to keep Brunei Darussalam free from major and important animal diseases.

• Veterinary Laboratory Services – The Veterinary Laboratory provide services for the diagnosis of animal diseases through the facilities provided by the Diagnostic Laboratory and also serves as a testing laboratory for the safety and quality of livestock products, whereby the facilities are provided by the Quality Control Laboratory. Both services provide facilities to ensure food safety and indirectly safeguards human health.

• Livestock Production Technologies – Serves as an agent in seeking the latest livestock technology information especially on the subject of management and husbandry systems aside from preserving the genetic of our indigenous species.

• Project Development & Services – Acts as facilitator to the farming communities that include advisory services on animal husbandry and distribution of incentives.

• Industry Development – To support and promote the development of livestock industry through paper planning,including effective management, comprehensive production and continuity & promoting local industries, to expose export market.
