Status and Market Trends: To become highly competitive in the agriculture and agribusiness industry, proper marketing network and efficient distribution channels are the pre-requisite. This industry involves large investment and demands sound-based decision analysis. It is the Government's best interest to expand its global trade on agricultural products. Therefore , Brunei Darussalam must aim to gain access to the international sales channels for the country's local agro-based products . The marketing efforts now are to focus in transforming the so-called traditional non-commercial oriented manufacturer to a more commercially high-tech oriented producer. It is undeniable that local agriculture SMEs may find it challenging to enter the international markets. Thus, they require genuine advice and proper guidance on market and trade development activities and engage in a more aggressive marketing strategies and trading activities The Department of Agriculture is looking for potential investors in providing services in the area of international market networks, distribution channels, trade development and product promotion for the local agro-based products . OPPORTUNITY :Export market service provider MARKET SETTING AND TRENDS: Currently SMEs are engaging themselves in promotional activities through trade shows and investment mission. Unfortunately for thes SMEs, to develop international market networking is limited due to the lack of international marketing knowledge and experience and limited networking channels hence , as a result, the distribution of their products is limited to domestic market. REMARKS:By developing and forming an export marketing agency , it will assist local producers to develop their international marketing skills, improve their networking and establish export market. SUPPORT FACILITIES The government policies have been supportive towards investment in agriculture and agro-based food products. The Department of Agriculture will be in-hand to provide assistant to potential investors in areas that includes: • Leasing of semi-developed land and industrial site at a reasonable minimum rate for a mutually agreeable period. • Provision of basic infrastructures (access road , drainage, irrigation, portable water and electricity). • Application on Special Tax breaks for declared pioneer industries and products. • Assistance from the Department of Agriculture and a host of other support facilities. • The proposed agro-technology park aim to conduct scientific work and biotech innovation and commercial operation may serve as knowledge-based service provider.
