INTRODUCTION:The Plant Quarantine Unit of the the Department of Agriculture is responsible for the prevention of the introduction of dangerous pests and diseases which are harmful to the agriculture industry.
This regulation is provided under the II CHAPTER 43, AGRICULTURAL PESTS AND NOXIOUS PLANTS ACT " Section 24 (1) (F)Revised edition 1984
OBJECTIVES:
To prevent the introduction of exotic pests and diseases of plants in line with the International Regulations by prohibition, restriction or regulating of the movement of plant products & plant materials such as living plants, seeds for planting, bulbs, rhizomes, fresh fruits and vegetables, weeds, organic fertilizer and other living organisms.
ENFORCEMENT:
For prevention and prohibition of dangerous pests and diseases,
ALL plants and planting materials imported into Brunei Darussalam
are subjected to regulation as follows:
- PROHIBITION of importation of plant pests and diseases declared dangerous to agriculture.;
- PROHIBITION of importation of ALL host plants to the dangerous pests and diseases;
- PROHIBITION of importation of specific plant or plants materials of which plant diseases are known to be endemic in the country of origin.;
- TREATMENTS of plants and plant materials must be carried out in the country of origin prior to importation;
- All plants and plant materials will be subjected to INSPECTION on arrival;
- All plants and plant materials SUSPECTED or FOUND to be infested with pests or diseases will be treated or destroyed;
(REMINDER: All plants or plant materials treated in the country of origin may not necessarily be free from pests and diseases. Reinfestation may occur during transportation)
