IMPORT PROCEDURES
The present CHAPTER 43, AGRICULTURAL PESTSAND NOXIOUS PLANTS ACT Section 24 (1) (F) Revised edition 1984 requires ALL imported plants and plant materials including fruits and vegetables to have:
- REGISTRATION OF IMPORTERS
- IMPORT PERMITS
- PLANT PHYTOSANITARY CERTIFICATES
REGISTRATION OF IMPORTERS. This only applies to commercial importers of plant materials and plant products. The Importers have to be registered with the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources. Once registered, application for import permit can be submitted
IMPORT PERMITS are issued by the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, to indicate the TYPE and QUANTITY of plants or plant materials permitted for entry into Brunei Darussalam. With TERMS and CONDITIONS for such permits. The time required for the issuance of Import Permits is 3 working days. Any importation of plants or materials without an Import Permit will be confiscated, destroyed, or returned to the sender, and the importer may be prosecuted under the provisions of the above-mentioned enactment.
PHYTOSANITARY CERTIFICATES are issued by the legal issuing authority of the country of origin, certifying the state of health of the plants and treatments given in the country of origin. Phytosanitary Certificates are valid for 14 DAYS from the date of issue.
The Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources also issues Phytosanitary Certificates for EXPORTof plants and planting materials. Intending exporters are advised to obtain IMPORT PERMITS from the importing country. Import of plants and planting materials WITHOUT this certificate will be detained for inspection and treatment. The costs of treatment will be borne by the importers.
